The Prez Sez ...

Hi, All,

Firstly, a well-deserved vote of appreciation to Sally Kullman, Sine McCarty, and all the volunteers for the work they put into making our Spring show and competition such a big success. There were about 130 entries, quite a few of which were by new members. This is encouraging for the future growth of KAS so “Well done!” to our newest participants – we’re so glad you’ve joined us! Our judge, Don Litzau, a very interesting and enthusiastic artist himself, made some positive comments about the standard and variety of the work on display. He gave an informative critique in the afternoon and stayed until the end of the show offering constructive advice to those who asked him to look at their work. Congratulations to those who took home ribbons but every entrant was a winner!

At our March general meeting, our demo artist, Nancy Lee, kept us so well entertained with her technique and comments, that we went well over our allotted time! Her technique is learned from workshops with Vie Dunn-Harr, who will be one of the demo artists at the LSAG Convention in May. It was a most innovative approach to backgrounds and promises to be a fascinating demo. For details of the convention, go to : http://lonestarartguild.org.

Next month’s meeting will be our annual tasting party so bring along something delicious to share. We will also be presenting the Harry Druschell scholarship to a student from North Harris County College. It’s always interesting to meet the winner and see some of their work and hear about their future plans so try and come along. Our new Board and committee will also be announced.

Any new Board or committee members are welcome to attend the next Board meeting on Monday, April 10 th, at 10:00am. The venue will be at my home, 18 Greenway View Trail, Kingwood. Hope to see you there.

Your Prez,
Linda Hamilton.

Minutes from our February Meeting

KINGWOOD ART SOCIETY- GENERAL MEETING MINUTES --March 20, 2006

President Linda Hamilton called the meeting to order at 7:07 PM. Linda welcomed six guests to themeeting.

Sally Kullman introduced our guest artist, Nancy Lee. Nancy has studied extensively with the artist, Vie Dunn Harr. Nancy demonstrated Vie’s painting technique of using oil paint with Liquin to create a watercolor –like effect. The completed artwork was a lovely painting of Irises on an abstract background.

A business meeting followed the demonstration. Minutes were read by Sheila Bridges.

Treasurer Matthew Dunnachie reported a balance in the Treasury of XXX.

Correspondence: Sheila reported that get well cards were sent to Judy Richards, Pat Crocker and Mike Fehr.

Linney read a letter that was sent by Vanita Doyle to the Golden Shears Salon. The letter expressed regret that KAS would be discontinuing hanging paintings at the Salon.

Show Chair Sally K. presented an overview of KAS rules for the Art Show and Competition. She encouraged all members to enter, and passed around a sign-up sheet for workers for the show.

Kingwood Fine Art Festival: Linda D. reported that all files of vendors have been merged.

Publicity – Connie was thanked for placing information in the newspaper about upcoming KAS events. Linda Walker mentioned that the Green Acres Nursing Home is in need of a mural. Discussion followed about KAS possibly undertaking this as a project.

Newsletter: Linney thanked Kristin for the newsletter on the KAS website. Pam Bachman reported that a newsletter mailing has gone out to all members.

Kristin passed out a sign-up sheet for members who wish to have their newsletter come through E-mail.

Humble Chamber of Commerce: Jim G. reported on the Artist of the Month activity. A thank you note was read in which a Chamber member praised KAS for their quality art presentations.

Sini McCarty reported that there would be a Painting exchange for the Kingwood Chiropractic Office on Wednesday, March 22, at 8:00am. Connie announced that she sold a painting at this site.

Linney reported that the Board agreed that painting copies be clearly marked as a “Print”.

Membership: Judy Richards requested that members report any changes in status to her.

OLD BUSINESS
The April 2 AABY Garden Party tickets are available at the Thrift Store or at the door.

NEW BUSINESS
Parliamentarian Sheila B. announced the KAS Slate of Officers for 2006-2007.

Kristin D. motioned that the proposed Slate of Officers be approved by acclamation of the membership. Motion seconded by Mike Kaney.

The motion passed after a unanimous positive vote by KAS members.

Pat Conroy suggested that KAS start an art therapy outreach program. Linda will contact Paula

Mc Crary at Northeast Hospital to inquire if there is an interest in the program.

LSAG Convention- Linney announced that entry forms are due no later than April 4.

Linney announced that the next General Meeting would be a tasting party.

After the meeting, 5 members presented artwork for “Show and Tell”.

The meeting was dismissed at 9:30pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Sheila Bridges, secretary
