The Prez Sez ...

Hello, All.

Forgive me for spacing out on the prez sez and causing the newsletter to be late.  We've been going to M. D. Anderson for Red's radiation treatments, and I lost track of the days.  I'll put this column on my calendar and hope not to forget it again.

Things are gearing up for LSAG Convention.  It's a good time, with excellent demos and wonderful artwork to look at.  There are usually around 700 works of art, so it's a great celebration for the artists.  Once in a while, someone will sell something right off the convention display. If you know of artists or art lovers who are not in the Society, please bring them to a meeting.  I was the guest of another member the first time I attended, and became hooked after the first demo. Recruit your friends and acquaintances.  We would love to have more members.

Keep on painting, potting, sculpting, and whatever you do.  It's wonderful to be able to do art.

Your Prez,
Linda D.

NOTE 1: Bring LOTS of Show & Tell for the next general meeting! This is our Spring tasting party, and we'll be giving a scholarship to a deserving art student from N. Harris College. This is a great opportunity to meet and greet new members and to visit with old friends!

NOTE 2: Please contact Judy Richards or Kristin Dumas with address changes for the upcoming yearbook.

Board Position Opening and Opportunities

Look this over & Please Volunteer!

1. Treasurer
We need a Treasurer for the 2007-2008 year. The Treasurer shall collect all dues and record all financial transactions of Kingwood Art Society.

2. Scholarship Chairman & Committee
Needed for the 2 scholarships we give. One to a student at Kingwood College; one to a student at N. Harris College. It involved 2 emails/calls for the initial contact. 1 in November for the December winner; 1 in March for the April winner. Then you go to the site after the applications have been turned in to select a winner.

3. 501C3 Status
We need anybody with CPA or attorney experience to research rules of non-profits, pros and cons of the getting the club a 501C3 status, and the handling of and the amounts of money allowed for various funds.

4. Promote the Fine Art Festival
We need a chairperson or Co-Chair & Committee to see about getting sponsors and other promotions for the Festival Anyone with "getting sponsor" experience would be helpful either on the committee, or getting it started & showing us direction. It would involve legwork and/or phone or e-mail time and writing letters. We have 2 samples of letters to sponsors to get you started. Along these lines, we need ideas from the members on who to contact. Also, other ideas, such as, performances by local groups, free tickets for merchants to give out, support from the Houston city Council, etc. or what else???? Sounds like we need a think tank!

Spring Show Follow-up

Dear KAS Members,

First, I want to thank everyone who helped with the Show and Competition on Saturday, March 31st. I think we had a beautiful show and it could not have been done without the wonderful help that we had or the many beautiful paintings and artwork that were entered.

I also want to give a very special thanks to Shirley Quaid. Shirley came just to help, and boy did she. She is the nice lady who stood out under her umbrella in the rain in order to make sure everyone got the message to bring their work in through the movie theater entrance so their work would not get wet. SPECIAL KUDOS TO YOU SHIRLEY. You are very appreciated by all.

We also appreciate Mike Kaney, Dale Barrack, and my husband, Joe for enduring the rain and hanging the panels while dripping wet. We are grateful for their job well done.

We all know how wonderful Mr. Carlos Garza, Manager of Dillard's, has been to us over the years. He constantly ask us what we can do to help us. He also lets us use his dolly at 7:00 AM at EVERY show. This year he brought us Godiva Chocolates! Thank you to Judy Richards, Linda Dumas, Sine McCarty and myself for donating artwork which we gift bagged and presented to Mr. Garza as a special thanks for his help. He was indeed pleased and loved all of the gifts.

Again, Sine McCarty and I thank you for your support and help to make Kingwood Art Society the successful society it is today.

Show Chair
