The Prez Sez ...

Hello to all the fabulously talented KAS members! I trust you had a good Thanksgiving. We enjoyed getting the family together and sharing our Thanksgiving meal. We were fortunate to have also a couple of good friends to spend this time with us.

Later in the weekend, my grand daughters, Sarah and Amanda, helped me get out scads of Christmas decorations to deck the halls and the tree. It's so much more fun when one has the enthusiastic support of children to get this holiday going. They love tradition, and will remind you if you don't do things the same as last year...

We had a wonderful demo from Cynthia Forsythe at our November meeting. She has extensive accomplishments as a Master Decorative Artist and as Teacher, and showed us fascinating things about brush strokes, colors, and blending. Her work has such a lovely glow and depth to it, and we enjoyed her presentation very much.

In December we will not have a demo, but everyone is encouraged to attend this very important meeting. (Remember, it's the second Monday.) We will meet our student scholarship winner from Kingwood College and view his work. We will also be bringing Potluck, and enjoying a Christmas meal together. This is a great time to get to know the members of the society better. Please bring lots of art to Show and Tell. Your fellow artists are marvelous appreciators of your work, and if, as I have, you want them to suggest what you might do to improve a work in progress, you will find that they are helpful and incisive.

I'm going to remind myself not to get lost in the bustle of the Christmas season, and to slow down and smell the evergreens, cookies, turkey, ham, spices, and, just possibly, the cold Christmas air. We are so fortunate to be in this wonderful country, to have a talent to express ourselves, and to enjoy friends and family to support us. Whatever our religion and background, we have much in common, so viva the similarities, and viva the differences as well. You are all some of the B.P.O.E. (I think it stood for the Elks Club, but we always said it meant Best People on Earth.)
