Dear KAS members.
I don't know about ya'll, but I'm pretty darn tired of cold and wet. Cold is bad, and so is wet, but put them together in our area and they spell MISERY! I guess it's a great time to stay indoors and paint, pot, or whatever.
When you have time, check out the class offerings at the Art League of Houston. Located on Montrose, sideways across from Texas Art Supply, they have a wonderful new building, and lots of good course offerings. The next session starts sometime in March. A class makes you work at least on a regular basis.
Would you believe LSAG business is already in the works? I received our registration materials from Ralph Baker a few days ago. I'm going to have the Artist Registration Form and Guest Registration form in the newsletter for both February and March. You will note that the date to have materials to me is April 9. You will need to make the check out to KAS. Matthew will then issue a check to LSAG when we send off our materials. Hard copies of the registration paper will be available at the KAS Spring Competition and Show. Please pay careful attention to the deadline. If you want to fill in your registration at the Competition and give Matthew a check, that would be fine, too. If you miss the KAS deadline, you will have to deal directly with Ralph Baker, because I will mail off our materials the next day, most likely.
You have a month and a half to do something wonderful for competition. So...go to your studio and make stuff.
Artily yours,
Linda D.

Look this over & Please Volunteer!
1. Scholarship Chairman & Committee
Needed for the 2 scholarships we give. One to a student at Kingwood College; one to a student at N. Harris College. It involved 2 emails/calls for the initial contact. 1 in November for the December winner; 1 in March for the April winner. Then you go to the site after the applications have been turned in to select a winner.
2. Phone Tree
Some is needed to be in charge of a phone tree, to set it up and get volunteers to contact the rest of the membership, when necessary. We could use phone or email, just so everyone is notified. If anyone has had experience in setting up a phone tree, but didn't want to begin charge, maybe you could help get it started.
3. 501C3 Status
We need anybody with CPA or attorney experience to research rules of non-profits, pros and cons of the getting the club a 501C3 status, and the handling of and the amounts of money allowed for various funds.
4. Promote the Fine Art Festival
We need a chairperson or Co-Chair & Committee to see about getting sponsors and other promotions for the Festival Anyone with "getting sponsor" experience would be helpful either on the committee, or getting it started & showing us direction. It would involve legwork and/or phone or e-mail time and writing letters. We have 2 samples of letters to sponsors to get you started. Along these lines, we need ideas from the members on who to contact. Also, other ideas, such as, performances by local groups, free tickets for merchants to give out, support from the Houston city Council, etc. or what else???? Sounds like we need a think tank!
