The Prez Sez ...

Hello Everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day on February 14. Enjoy a box of candy, some flowers, or NEW ART SUPPLIES!

I finally had two days this week in my studio. It was great! I got to thinking, and came up with two very important words for artists: WHAT IF? What if I did this to my piece of art? What if I tried a new technique? What if I submitted a slide to a potential exhibition? WHAT IF? Are you working with your WHAT IF? What if you try something and "mess up"? That's O. K. I repeat, "That's O.K." If it doesn't work, turn it into a collage or an assemblage. If it's W/C, cut out the part you like and make a smaller painting. If it's oil, use it for an underpainting and do something different. Paint your name out and give it to the FamilyTime Thrift Store. I actually had a thrift store lady who was "collecting me". The important thing is to keep on working. In THE ARTIST'S WAY, the author says to make a great quantity of art, and God will take care of the quality. In ART AND FEAR, the half of the class whose grade depended on how many pots they made did better than the ones who were told their grade depended on the quality of the pots. The ones who made the most practiced, observed, corrected and learned on the job. So...make as much art as you can. Don't be afraid to exercise your WHAT IF!

See you at the meeting.

Your Prez,

Linda D.

February Demo - Diane Buckhout

Diane Buckhout is a graduate of East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. Since then she has continue her art studies with some of the finest artists and teachers in the country during the many years that she has spent in Texas. In addition, she has studied the arts abroad in Italy, France and England. Her work is exhibited in many juried and one-woman shows throughout the Country.

Diane Buckhout's unique approach to Oil Painting has created and ever-widening circle of admirers and collectors of her work. Regardless of the subject matter of her paintings, she has a refreshing and exiting approach to realistic art. Utilizing a technique she used by many of the old Masters, layered oil glazes, she creates a delicate misty quality to her work. Her paintings are recognized for their dramatic lighting effects and emotional impact. The demand for a Diane Buckhout Original has grown tremendously over the years and they now appear in many private collections throughout the United States and in many foreign countries. There is timelessness and nostalgia about her work which is apparent in her many subjects, whether it be landscape, seascapes, portraits and still life.
