The Prez Sez ...

Hello and Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and holiday time. We enjoyed our time with the family, and, of course, ate too much—but is there anyone who doesn't indulge at least a little during the Christmas season?

I am hoping that 2008 will be a better year than the one I had in 2007. I'm ready to get back in the studio and try some fun things. I ordered some collage books online, and want to try some of the new things they promise. I hope you have found things that make you want to paint, sculpt, draw or photograph

Thanks to everyone for the delicious food they brought to the Christmas potluck. All the dishes were delicious, and the company was great. Sheila and Pat selected a wonderful scholarship winner. She was so delightful and charming—and loaded with talent. We were all quite taken with her. I think artists are some of the best appreciators of other art I have ever seen. Wouldn't you just love to have a space in your house for every lovely art thing that takes your fancy?

New paints, pastels, pristine paper, wonderful wrapped canvas—all these inspire us to make marks, use color, show the world a bit of ourselves. Aren't you glad that you are an artist? We have a show coming up in a very short time, so go to your studio and MAKE STUFF!

See you in January…

Your Prez,

Linda D.

NOTES: Pam Bachman fell and broke her shin bone in the same leg that she had her hip replacement. She had surgery on New Year's Day and they put a plate on her shin bone and had to replace the bar with a longer one that goes into the socket in her hip.

She will be at Healthsouth in Humble for therapy beginning Monday, January 7. She will not be able to put weight on it for at least 6-9 weeks. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Ways & Means
Ways & Means Committee are going to have a meeting in Jan. to discuss ways to get the name of Kingwood Art Society out into the community and ways we can participate with our art. We have 3 members from the Board and would like 2-3 people from the Membership at large to participate. The first meeting will be Networking with throwing ideas into the "pot". Please, please think about participating. Let Vanita Doyle, (281-360-2489), know if you will help, by phone or at the Jan. meeting. Come with any ideas, no matter how "far out", we need some laughs in with the serious!. Any ideas come to you, call me, Debra Latham, or Jim Geyger and let us know about them.

December General Meeting Minutes
KINGWOOD ART SOCIETY- GENERAL MEETING MINUTES --December 17, 2007

President Linda Dumas called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Kingwood Art Society hosted their Christmas dinner and meeting. After a welcome and
blessing, members and guests enjoyed a pot luck and fellowship dinner.

Following dinner, Mari O'Mauri from Kingwood College introduced Maria T. Fontanez.

Maria is the 2007 winner of the Paul McCarty KAS Scholarship degree.

Maria who is a native of Spain brought 5 large canvases which were painted in acrylic.

Her subject matter was about Spain- its history, culture and landscape.

Our members were impressed in the progress that Maria has made after only beginning painting one year ago.

A brief business meeting followed the presentation.

Linda D. announced that the next meeting will have Tina Szajko demonstrating Perspective of Still Life.

Ways and Means- Judy reported on the recent Vendors Event at the Homewood Suites.

LSAG - Linney reported that Frost Insurance is handling coverage for the convention.

The $25.00 donation for the door prizes needs to be sent to the LSAG treasurer.

Nominating Committee will be organized in January.

New Business

It was proposed that we give a "Friend of the Arts" recognition award to Mari O' Mauri at Kingwood College for her efforts in the selection process for the KAS Scholarship.

Linney reported that Kay Pass inquired if KAS is interested in a painting project for the fundraiser.

10-12 volunteers will be needed.

Kristin reported that the Homewood Suites requested that we remove our demo mirror.

Meeting Places- We are covered till the end of this year (May) at the Homewood Suites.

Rosemont was discussed as a future meeting place. Judy and Vanita will make inquiries.

The meeting was dismissed at 8:55 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Sheila Bridges, Secretary
