The Editor Sez ...

Dear KAS members.

Linda, our president, has been having a difficult time recently, so I'm filling in this time for her with the monthly letter to the members.

Linda's mother died the first weekend of March, so she's been away. And her husband, Red, was recently diagnosed with cancer. The prognosis for him is good though, but he will under go cancer treatments at MD Anderson. We all know he's in good hands at that hospital. While Linda is greiving her mother and she and her husband are coping with his cancer treatment, let's remember her and send some positive healing prayers her way.

Spring is a busy month for the Art Society. We have our Spring Show and Competition at the end of the month, and our LSAG Convention registration coming at the beginning of April. Please take the time to read through the information in this letter, so we can work together to make our competition a great success!

In this newsletter you'll find information from Sally, our show coordinator, and links to the files you'll need to use to enter your art into the competition. You will also find information regarding the LSAG Convention and registration.

Cholla with be with us this month for our demonstration, and she will show us how to pour watercolor and acrylic. I've never had a chance to see this technique so I'm looking forward to it, and I look forward to visiting with the rest of you!

DEAR KAS MEMBERS: “YOUR SPRING SHOW IS COMING SOON AND ONCE AGAIN, WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION!!

I hope all of you have been working on your artwork. We need all of you to enter. This is the only way we can have a successful show! As you know, these shows are not only fun but we as artists also benefit a lot from the judges critiques. Remember the date of MARCH 31, 2007 . Mark this on your calendar and also mark March 25, 2007 as the last day to get your forms in to Sine or me.

The Art Show and Competition that will take place on Saturday March 31, 2007 at Deerbrook Mall in Dillard’s on the first floor between the Shoe and the Jewelry/Handbag Departments. Set up will begin at 7:00 a.m. Anyone who can help set up for the competition and the mini boutique should come at this time. I will pass out sign up sheets for help at the March meeting. The best entry to the mall before 10:00 a.m. is between Sears and Barnes & Noble.

A few things to remember:

  • Artists MUST pre-register by March 25, 2007 . Remember, you can mail these forms to me by Snail Mail or by e-mail. My address is josalsal@earthlink.net. • Ten entries are allowed per artist and ALL ART MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED WITHIN THE LAST 24 MONTHS.
  • Check our 2006-2007 yearbook for KAS and LSAG rules.

Look this over & Please Volunteer!

1. Scholarship Chairman & Committee
Needed for the 2 scholarships we give. One to a student at Kingwood College; one to a student at N. Harris College. It involved 2 emails/calls for the initial contact. 1 in November for the December winner; 1 in March for the April winner. Then you go to the site after the applications have been turned in to select a winner.

2. 501C3 Status
We need anybody with CPA or attorney experience to research rules of non-profits, pros and cons of the getting the club a 501C3 status, and the handling of and the amounts of money allowed for various funds.

3. Promote the Fine Art Festival
We need a chairperson or Co-Chair & Committee to see about getting sponsors and other promotions for the Festival Anyone with "getting sponsor" experience would be helpful either on the committee, or getting it started & showing us direction. It would involve legwork and/or phone or e-mail time and writing letters. We have 2 samples of letters to sponsors to get you started. Along these lines, we need ideas from the members on who to contact. Also, other ideas, such as, performances by local groups, free tickets for merchants to give out, support from the Houston city Council, etc. or what else???? Sounds like we need a think tank!
