Good online art prices may be found at http://www.misterart.com (This is also a Texas Art site. If you pay for the VIP membership, you will save a good deal on items.) You will have to pay shipping, of course, but sometimes we simply can't leave home and make it downtown. Texas Art Supply is online at http://www.texasart.com.
Look up art terms at http://www.artlex.com
The wonderful array of products of the Golden Company may be found at http://www.goldenpaints.com. If you are having trouble ordering certain colors for the Golden Paints, particularly the iridescents, try ordering them from http://www.artcity.com. They are pretty quick with a mail order. Michael's usually has Golden fluid acrylics and iridescents, but only in small bottles and colors are usually missing. Texas Art has all the colors, but not all the iridescents.
The web site for the fabulous Mary Todd Beam is http://www.marytoddbeam.com. Mary's great book is Celebrate Your Creative Self. I think it is still available at Northlight Books at P.O. Box 9276, Central Islip, NY 11722-9276 phone 386-447-6359 or go to nlbc@mbsmm.com. Another excellent and useful book to get your creativity going is Arteffects by Jean Drysdale Green. Very good ideas may be found in Creative Collage Techniques by Nita Leland and Virginia Lee Williams.

Gerald Brommer has many good books out there, several on collage. His Watercolor and Collage Workshop is available through http://www.amazon.com for about $12.95. Mr. Brommer also showed me that if you want to make a dark painting or artwork "pop" put it inside a black mat! When you begin a two-dimensional artwork, draw a real or imaginary tic tac toe on your board or canvas. Put your center of interest/focal point, where the lines cross.
If you are running out of names for your art works, try a music or mythology dictionary. On the music side, you could title things something like Symphony in Blue and Gold, Barnyard Concerto, Sarabande in Red, or Ducklings in Chorus. I did a series of pots using titles such as Zeus' Pot, Hebe's Bowl, or Goblet of Ares. A wonderful, beautiful magazine is international Artist. You may write to International Artist Magazine, P.O. Box 469068, Escondido, CA 92046.
Good frames and framing supplies may be found at United MFRS Supplies, Inc. 80 Gordon Drive, Syosset, NY 11791. Phone is 800-645-7260. Web address is www.unitedmfrs.com If you call for catalogs, ask specifically for framing one. They also have super good prices on matboard and foamcore if purchased in 25 sheet lots. You do have to have a tax number, which you should have anyway if you sell your art...
The TUBE WRINGER is available from Texas Art for $9.74—get every last drop of paint out of those tubes!
The TWIRLER ($9.50 and SUPER SOFTSTRAND wire are from United Manufacturers. I use size 4 (25 lbs.). The spool is $21.40 and contains 825ft. The twirler first punches a hole in your wood frame for the metal eye, then inserts inside the eye to screw it in. I'm not sure if those prices are still the same.
United also has a French gallery system that is wonderful. You mount a track near your ceiling, hang rods with hooks off it, and you can change your paintings at will. I have one in my hallway.
Best heavy-body gesso is Utrecht. Gives tons of texture!
If you have to carry some paintings by the wire, take the cardboard tube from a pants hanger, slit it, and slip it over the wire. Cushions your hand wonderfully.
Price your paintings by the square inch. Takes all the guesswork out.
