The Prez Sez ...

Hello artists,

November promises to be a busy month for all of us. We have our Fall Competition and Show on November 11, and I encourage everyone to attend. Please put something in the show, because we are going to need your presence at the LSAG Convention and Competition in May. We have had a couple of lean years at LSAG, and need to come back strong as a society, and we can't do that unless our members show their work. For our new members, we are thrilled to have you with us, and hope that you'll feel at home very soon. KAS has some very talented artists, but, more importantly, it has some wonderful people who are well worth getting to know.

For everyone: please familiarize yourself with or review the rules. Remember paintings must be dry and ready to hang WITH WIRE. Those little sawtoothed hangers do not work with the drapery pins we must insert in our panels to hang our art. Also, please be sure your dues are up to date. You may pay them at the show, but you must be a member in good standing to participate. You may also pay your entry fees at the show. You may enter the show by mail, online, telephone or fax and pay when you arrive at Deerbrook Mall on November 11.

Please remind other artists that you know that KAS is open to ANYONE. Artists and art lovers living anywhere are eligible to join and compete in the shows.

Of course, this is the month of Thanksgiving. I know we are all thankful to have been given a talent. What a wonderful thing it is to be able to make art! It is one of the best ways I know to fill some time - perhaps I should have said creatively fill some time. The process of making a piece of art has to be way up there in the list of what's rewarding to do. Who didn't fill the margins of notebooks with drawings, or help the teacher with posters or bulletin boards? Aren't you glad to be so blessed? I know I am.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Linda D

Our Next Demo Artist

Cindy Forsythe has an MDA in Decoratve Painting. She'll demonstrate One Stroke Painting and show us how to integrate this into Fine Art. This will be a unique and interesting demonstration.

Please join us for this meeting on November 20.

Chamber News

The Humble Chamber of Commerce  has requested we do not change any paintings during December or January because of their heavy schedule. The paintings on display Oct 27 should remain until our next exchange date in Feb details will follow when available.

A question was asked about how many times a painting may be entered in an LSAG shows, and we received some clarification from the LSAG By-Laws:

ARTICLE VI – EXHIBIT

There shall be one Membership Exhibit in May.  Exhibit entries must have won a First, Second, Third or First Honorable Mention at their Home Show or in any LSAG Membership Show.  An LSAG Approved Show shall be any show reporting winners to the LSAG Convention Registration Chairman.  Each LSAG Club must report to the Convention Registration Chairman the winners from their shows that are eligible for entering the next LSAG Convention within 10 days after each club show.  Awards winners in Club Shows held too late in April for entry in the May Convention will be eligible for the Convention the following year.

An artwork can be entered in LSAG Convention competition one time only!

For KAS members: an un-awarded painting may be re-entered once more into a KAS show since it will not have gone to LSAG.
