The Prez Sez ...
Hello fellow artists,

It was good to see all of you who were able to make the September meeting. Liz Lusk had fabulous fantasy sculptures, and was a most interesting speaker. For October, we have Laurie Humble, who has been featured in THE ARTIST'S MAGAZINE. You will see her bio in another part of the newsletter.

I've been thinking about creative people. They sometimes need their space to create, but many times, their creativity is fueled by that of other artists. You certainly don't want to copy someone exactly, but you never know when one little phrase or tidbit of art will be very meaningful. Art media are not separate or apart. You might improve your watercolor by watching someone sculpt the body, or learn more about oils from observing what someone does with acrylics. Please try to attend as many meetings as possible. We need a good audience for our demo artists, and we need each other to support our art habits.

A note of thanks to 'Sine McCarty and Jim Grygier, who have both been so faithful in seeing that we have an opportunity to get our art and our Society out there. 'Sine arranges our showing at Kingwood Chiropractic on the Wednesday following our meeting every other month beginning in September. Jim oversees our display at the Chamber of Commerce whenever he can arrange for us to get in there.

Also, there is Carol Showalter (281-360-7760) who is in charge of our library displays. Thanks to her for her contributions to KAS.

Remember our Fall Show & Competition is coming up in November. Get painting, sculpting, wood turning, drawing, and so forth - we need a really good showing.

Her work was the subject of a feature article, entitled Three Key Elements of a Successful Painting: Focal Point, Compostion, and Depth, in the March 2005 issue of American Artist Magazine.

Laurie has served on the Board of Directors of the Watercolor Art Society of Houston for two years. She has served as a Juror for numerous local art competitions, teaches classes in watercolor, conducts workshops, and offers private lessons.
